Community Education and Adjunct Teaching

Teaching at the AAC and NKU

Back when I first started school at The University of Kentucky, as a Secondary Social Studies Education Major, I always dreamed about teaching at the high school and college level. Years later, after switching majors four times and my school one time, I finally graduated with a BFA Graphic Design degree from Northern Kentucky University.

Even as an agency employee, I was still interested in teaching. So I signed up to teach community education classes at The Art Academy of Cincinnati. There I taught an Adobe InDesign class and then a Dreamweaver, basic HTML + CSS class. However, community education didn't have the feel that I wanted. I couldn't assign homework or reading and there were no official grades or projects.

Years later, while attending a NKU Senior Project, graphic designer show, one of my college professors asked if I'd be interested teaching a "Code for Designers" type class at NKU. Obviously, I was interested. I accepted and am currently fumbling my way through my first college teaching gig, ARTV 330 Interaction Design for Visual Communication. That's quite a mouthful.
