Everything But The House

Product Design

I had been keeping an eye on the local tech scene to see if any West Coast style jobs would make it to the Mid-West, and thankfully one finally did. I was hired on to Everything But The House (EBTH) as a Product Designer in July of 2018.

My time there was mostly spent on a single, internal project, the Sale Merchandising Tool (SMT). Working with a Product Manager, Full-Stack Developer(or 4) and our UX Director, not to mention anyone else that walked by, we were able to translate a product brief into features, mid/high-fidelity prototypes, then code. I needed a lot of help ramping up on the code base, and working my Angular skills into new React skills. The EBTH team was great, and they helped me every step of the way.

To describe the tool a bit, the SMT was created to take loose items meant for sales, show applicable information about those items to users who were in charge of creating sales on the EBTH website, and allow them to search and sort items, adding them to the sale. A metrics section would adjust to show applicable data based on items in the sale. This would allow users the ability to make data driven decisions with the goal of driving average item values up. That seemed pretty cool to me.

We only got to see the SMT to about 80-90% completion before my departure. I hope it still gets to see the light of day in the EBTH admin.
